A site-specific installation, inviting passengers at Hobby Airport to find their place under Texas' welcoming sky.
This work displays the expansiveness of the Texas sky through a translucent sculpture, designed as an architectural intervention that responds to the airport terminal infrastructure and to the sky already present through the glass. Moving to and from the gates, passengers are met by a suspended horizon and skyscape that changes through the day with the light entering the terminal.
Designed, engineered, and fabricated in-house, the form is composed of a metal structure suspending individual acrylic panels, each displaying a photographic print that together complete an image of the Texas sky. It references a window louver — the opening up of the architectural space to let the expansive sky in. The translucency of the material and the quality of the print reflect the natural light, altering the passenger's perception of the space.
