A suspended sculpture set as an exuberant counterpoint to the austere architecture of San Antonio's Oxbow Building.
Hundreds of hand-formed aluminum branches and ceramic eggs comprise this chandelier-styled artwork. Located in the entry lobby of the Oxbow Building in San Antonio, the Egg-delier is one of 8 pieces commissioned as part of a larger collection celebrating the city's connection to the San Antonio River — specifically the riparian edge.
With a fanciful take on waterfowl nesting among the cypress and mesquite, the branches are arranged in a spiraling pattern scripted to form a bowl-like shape as each segment of the lattice connects to the others. The eggs are thrown in ceramic with a mixture of glazes that render their earthy, mottled tones upon firing. Though the piece is not lit, the contrast between the burnished metalwork and the glossy surface of the eggs references the ironwork and lanterns of traditional chandelier craft.
