A flight-training and operations facility for the regional airport — contemporary program set in Castroville's Alsatian vernacular.
The study was prepared as a concept for congressional funding — a STEM grant sought through Community Project Funding from the House Appropriations Committee. Its purpose is workforce development: upskill training and certification for high-demand aviation careers, aimed at high school and college age students.
The facility would offer advanced aviation certifications, aerospace education, and aviation history through a museum element, and would be only the second location in Texas's 23rd Congressional District to offer advanced aviation certification.
Design was governed by the City of Castroville's historic design ordinances, which set the town's Alsatian character as a requirement rather than a preference. The building answers them by mixing that traditional language with the technology the program demands.
