A forward-minded update to the entry of the Circuit of the Americas as the venue transforms into a 365-day-a-year entertainment district.
Since first hosting the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix, COTA has grown into a year-round sports and entertainment hub just southeast of Austin. With the introduction of COTALAND and an extensive masterplan incorporating an indoor waterpark and resort, the main entry needed to be updated.
Using a simple hub-and-spoke layout, the existing Grand Plaza was reworked to respond to the main entry of COTALAND and the planned locations for future amenities, and to create a shaded public promenade from parking along COTA Blvd. Given the annual activations for major motorsport and entertainment events, the plaza provides generous pathways toward a central gathering area while leaving ample room for activation tents and booths in the intermediate lawns.
